Fumie Saito

Senior Partner

 

Fumie is a senior partner with InterPraxis specializing in democratic governance, gender equality, responsible labour practices and international human rights. 

A former Senior Policy Advisor for the Minister of State for Social Affairs in Japan, Fumie has a wealth of experience conducting consultations and negotiating with diverse sets of stakeholders in the public, private and non-profit spheres, and a well-developed understanding of public policy formation and democratic governance. Prior to this role, Fumie served as a legislative policy aide, a political spokesperson and also worked as a television journalist.

Since joining InterPraxis in 2008, Fumie has advised a number of Canadian companies on labour practices and gender equality issues in emerging markets. She has also conducted international human rights investigations on issues concerning labour migration, child labour and international trafficking in the extractive sector. She has carried out assignments in Africa, Asia, North America and the Middle-East. Some of her recent clients include: Transparency International-Canada, The Canadian International Development Agency, the Parliament of Japan, the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, and Human Rights Now (HRN).

Fumie holds a Juris Doctorate (JD) from Waseda University Law School in Tokyo as well as a Masters degree in Public Policy from George Washington University in Washington, D.C. She is the founder of Women's Policy Watch and is a former board member of the Japan NGO Network for the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW).

Fumie is currently based in London where is completing a L.L.M in International Human Rights Law at Essex University. She is fluent in English and Japanese, and publishes a monthly article on public affairs for a national magazine in Japan.
